Teachers College Demonstration School in Osogbo, where he studied from 1973 to
1979. He then attended St Charles Grammar School, Osogbo, from 1979 to 1984.
After completing his secondary education, Lagbaja pursued further studies at
The Polytechnic, Ibadan, from 1984 to 1986, where he obtained his West African
School Certificate (Advanced Level).
Regarding his academic qualifications, Lagbaja holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography, which he obtained from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 2001. He also pursued higher education at the US Army War College, where he completed a Master of Science degree in Strategic Studies in 2014.

In pursuit of his military career, Major General Lagbaja gained admission into the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 39th Regular Course on 12 September 1987. His dedication and commitment led to his commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps on 19 September 1992.
Throughout his career, Major General Lagbaja has actively participated in various military operations, showcasing his leadership and expertise. Notable operations he has been involved in include Operation HARMONY IV in the Bakassi Peninsula from January 1996 to June 2000, the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) from 2004 to 2005, and Operation ZAKI, an internal security operation in Benue State, during two separate periods: September 2012 to April 2013 and July 2014 to December 2015.
He has also contributed to Operation LAFIYA DOLE, which took place from December 2015 to January 2018. Additionally, Major General Lagbaja participated in Operation MESA/Operation UDO KA, an internal security operation in the South East Zone of Nigeria covering Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States, from March 2021 to August 2022. Currently, he is engaged in Operation FOREST SANITY, an ongoing internal security operation in Kaduna and Niger States since August 2022.
